EROTICA, an online exhibition by Litehouse Gallery.

Our new online exhibition, Erotica, pulls together the works of six Syrian artists in a series of multifaceted depictions of the body. Our artists blend together different styles and techniques drawing from numerous art movements to produce work that is current while simultaneously building on classical traditions of the nude.

The result is a wide-ranging collection, from classical pencil sketchings of the female form, to experimental watercolour inspired by the decadence of the fin-de-siècle, to storytelling in cubist forms.

Historically, the female nude has predominantly been associated with patriarchal traditions of the divine feminine, with a highlight on fertility and nurturing qualities. However, many of the works in our Erotica series exist in a wider nexus of cultural contexts and perform as cultural commentaries in themselves as the artists draw from relevant world philosophies, to produce idiosyncratic work.
